Open hole completions are often selected as the preferred completion technique to provide high capacity, low skin completions, even though the open hole gravel pack technology can control sand producing effectively, but one drawback to open hole gravel packs has always been the inability to isolate unwanted water or gas, whether it may be during the initial completion or during the production life-cycle of the well. Numerous improvements have been made in recent years with open hole packers to provide zonal isolation in stand alone screen applications, or swell-able packer after gravel packing , it is prone to form a sand layer between packer element and well bore which can conduct water or gas.

Kelly OHMZ system is upgraded the mature OHGP system, can be allowed to compartmentalize the open hole gravel pack completion and provide flexibility for future intervention operation.

This system can be used in conjunction with conventional screen, bypass screen and has all the OHGP features. The unique Bypass Isolation Packer will be set by special setting tool before gravel pack, thus there is no sand layer outside of the packer. After gravel packing bypass channel inside of Bypass Isolation Packer can be mechanically closed by shifting tool, and a backup swell element unit inside of the by-bypass channel will act and block off approximate 10 days later, thereby zones will be isolated completely. Seal bores can be mounted below and above the Bypass Isolation Packer, which in conjunction with seal assembly it is available to implement staged water control or intervention technology.

Running

Washing down and running can assist in getting the assembly into position in the well bore. The system includes HST Hydraulic Setting tool, OHGP service tool, ASV Anti- Swabbing Valve, STSA Single Shifting tool, STDA Shifting tool, HDW Weight Down tool, BSI Bypass Isolation Packer setting tool, STS Bypass Sleeve shifting tool, LSA Lower Sealing Assemble. These tools prevent premature packer setting during installation, ensure well stability by maintaining hydro-static pressure on the formation at all times, prevent swabbing or surging of the formation during tool positioning and tool part movements, achieve zonal isolation in open hole gravel pack and allow wash down through the service tool to the end of the screen.

Packer setting

When the sand-control assembly is at depth and the open hole is displaced to solids-free fluid, the RHS packer is set by dropping a ball and applying pressure to the tubing. After the packer is set over-pull 10 ton and slack down 10 ton to test the anchor, then apply pressure approximate 3500psi to tubing to release the setting tool, last pick up 1 meter and apply pressure of 2000psi to annular to test the packer sealing. Pick up service string to the BIP packer setting position, apply approximate 1300psi to set BIP by-pass isolation packer. During this time, hydro-static pressure acts on the formation all the time.

Gravel pack

The OHGP system enables the gravel pack to be performed in the set-down position, eliminating tool movement due to thermal contraction, or hydraulic effects. Additionally, the FBSD capability provides visual surface indications of tool positions, “α” and “β” wave can be carried out as same as conventional OHGP. The system has the ability to capture real time bottom hole pressures throughout the entire operation,

Excess gravel and filter cake cleanup

Any remaining gravel slurry will be reversed out and measured with placing the service tool at reverse circulation position after gravel packing. Only if no any sand return, stop reverse circulation. The OHGP system service tool eliminates the need for an additional trip for post gravel pack filter cake removal. The service tool can be converted back to the wash-down mode to allow filter cake breaker fluids to be spotted across the formation before pulling the tool. The service tool and wash pipe are retrieved from the well, and the production tubing is installation.
