BIP BY-PASS ISOLATION PACKER

In conventional open hole gravel pack completions，one of the drawbacks has typically been the inabilities to shut off unwanted water or gas cut section and take zonal intervention. The BIP Bypass isolation packer was designed to achieve true zonal isolation in open hole prior to gravel packing，thereby without sand layer between packer element and well bore which can conduct water or gas.

The BIP packer can be in conjunction with conventional screen and be set with special hydraulic tool before gravel packing. During gravel packing, “ɑ” and “β” waves can be carry out in the conventional way. After gravel packing, the by-pass channel will be closed by mechanical shifting tool, and a backup mechanism of water swelling rubber will close the by-pass channel again, the mechanism is inside of the by-pass channel. Thus, the open hole section will be compartmentalized into several zones, so it is available to carry out staged water control and other intervention at later stage.
